Whitney Hartman, local HS science teacher, MA Biology, and owner of Hartman Lavender Garden (Monarch Joint Venture partner), will guide the class in learning about plants for pollinator conservation and how invertebrate and plant mechanisms work.
We’ll cover topics such as:
Pollinator Waystations and how they create a food source for local and migratory pollinator species
The difference between host, nectar, and pollen producing plants
Soil prep, selecting plants for our zone, and planting inspiration for the best waystations for the popular Monarch Butterfly and more
Lavender growing and care talk in the lavender fields
Your planter will include: 3 pollinator plants (1 gal, 2 quart sized), 1 small Milkweed plant, and we’ll provide all the supplies you need (except for gloves, bring your own if you’d like!)
These planters are great for attracting hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies to your home garden, will be seasonal heat tolerant and deer-resistant! You’ll have rewarding blooms and visitors all season long.
After the workshop, guests are welcome to wander the fields to pick a bundle of lavender to take home as well!
Bring your gardening gloves and a friend!
Ticket Price: $45
Weather Policy: Workshop is rain or shine, in the event of inclement weather we will notify you of a reschedule.
